Since Loman was obstructing the entrance he almost bumped into the boy. Having realized this he moved out of the way, helping himself to a corner of the tent, minding his own business.

"Hey, sorry. Oh, okay, thanks."

He'd be more enthusiastic in his thanking, but for some reason he wasn't in the mood. Now that he made the choice to come here, he was regretting it a whole bunch, and his stomach was still turning. The anticipation was killing him, the waiting was driving him crazy. He wasn't too excited to throw himself into a horde of zombies, but he needed to do something, anything.

Shufshufshufshufshufshufshufshufshufshufshufshufshuf

One of his legs were shuffling nervously on the spot again. Areva was there but the other guy she was with looked so intense he couldn't muster the courage to say hello. No talking to eating no bathroom breaks, just standing waiting to die. Without running around to distract him, the seriousness of his situation was starting to weigh on him.

"Ah!"

*Snap!*

"What?"

That's why when the captain walked in so suddenly, he gasped with a start. Underneath his foot was the short bow he forgot all about, he must have dropped it and stepped backwards when he was startled. Picking it up, he inspected the damage while the captain gave his speech. It was just a crack, he didn't care too much for the bow since he didn't know how to use it, but he didn't want to get in trouble if it broke.

You are going to charge the enemy down the center and cut their approach in half. Fortunately, there's no greater undead in their ranks; all you have to do is shut down brain function and the monster will no longer be a threat. Don't be afraid to swing at their necks or shoot for their skulls. Rush from here to the canyon and destroy every undead in your path. Any monster you fail to kill will continue its path to the city. Your task is to reach the canyon, divide their approach in two, and-- if possible --locate the legion's source."

Loman summarized the command. Rush to the canyon, break some heads. He grabbed his weapons and followed Talon's lead, hoping that some simple running and smashing could do the job. It was all he knew.

The untrained mob moved, and Sedit followed--for a time, at least. One mass of untrained, uneasy soldiers colliding with another mass of looming, resurrected thrashers sounded like one math equation he wanted no part of. When his comrades had charged about halfway to the undead, Sedit would slip out of the forward advance and pick up his speed as much as he could. He needed to skirt the outside of the enemy lines at the time the two forces met, when the enemy would be most condensed and distracted.

He moved to the outside perimeter of the charge, getting ready to make his move. He wasn't planning to desert, defect, or abandon his comrades, but manipulating the undead was a common Voleur D'ame tactic. He'd fought against opponents like this before--albeit in a much, much smaller scale--and had always found cutting the head off the snake to be the most effective route.

Aldric was busy centering himself for times ahead when the order came. And he knew right then that he would always remember this day, in whatever plane he inhabited when all was said and done. He smiled as he saw Misha walk up to him. It was good that he was not surrounded by strangers as they prepared to enter battle. With a calm and collected tone, a trembling combination of nerve and excitement dwelling deep within him, he replied to her question. "Miss Misha? I feel like I am on the top of the world on this day, a day which shall mark our lives forever."

With that he drew his saber. It was not especially fancy, though it did have some minor gold embellishments around the handle. It gleamed in the morning light while still showing marks of use. It was a very well-maintained sword, and it was obvious that it meant a lot to the ex-noble wielding it. He glanced to it and nodded with a meaningful look in his eye, as if meeting an old friend after a long absence. He looked back at Misha and said: "It is a glorious day, my new friend."

With that he charged towards the canyon, prepared to fight for his life.

What.

They weren't there to watch? To backup more experienced people and learn? Or sent to a shelter to be protected, as some of them had never been in a fight before, let alone a battle?

I should have run. Run the other way, as fast as I could, as far as I could. Maybe, somehow, she could get back home. It would be quite a journey. She could still run, maybe. Turn and go, leave the fighting to the people who wanted to fight.

But her fear of the oncoming army of undead was matched by her fear that if she showed any sign deserting she'd be shot in the back. The general had implied that something would be done about deserters later. Even if she left, how far would they hunt her?

Paralyzed by dual fears, Alicia was shoved along by the mass of recruits, corralled by her peers and her own traitorous legs to towards the enemy.

As Aldric rushed forward, Misha followed suit closely. Her digits wrapped tightly around the hilt of her sword, also knowing that her dagger was snugly secure in her boot, she inhaled deeply and let the adrenaline take hold of her. And it felt good...

All around her other cadets readied themselves at will. Some rushing onward ready to taste the blade or offer their own, while others still in shock at the whole idea of war.

She however embraced it, allowed the idea to rule her thoughts, concentrating on the task at hand, and it consumed her. A strong feeling that radiated from her being.

Charge down the center, shut down brain function. Reach the canyon, find the source.

She replayed the orders over and over in her mind. Head shots, she couldn’t help but smile. “Aldric, don’t forget to go for the heads!” It was loud enough everyone around her would have heard her, just a small reminder. Oddly enough she would prefer to see most of them return unscathed from their first rather abnormal drill......
