Breaching God's Domain

Greoul suffered extensive damages during the two month period known all over the world as "the End." While the island nation between the eastern and western continents retains its primary natural resources, traces of civilization have become rare.

Breaching God's Domain

"You've heard about it, yes?"

"Heard about what?"

"The undefeatable thing?"

"That? It's just a rumor, isn't it?"

"It isn't! I talked with someone who worked on the project; they claimed they made something no man could ever defeat--but before they could figure out a way to deploy it, the End came."

"How do you know he wasn't just blowing smoke?"

"He told me where it was, and how to release it."

"Oh? And what did he say?"

It was late. His two companions were in their rooms, sleeping. Even the usual activity of shades was absent--there would be no better time for Ryuku Obsidian to accomplish what he came here for.

Ryuku closed the door behind him, the room wasn’t very spacious, containing a simple bed a couple shelves all of which were covered in dust. Ryuku took the large blanket and moved to sit on the floor near the bed, draping the purple cloth over him.

Rather then sleep Ryuku forced himself to meditate, clear his thoughts and open himself up to what his training had taught him. He had a mission this night, the real purpose behind his visit to this place, a challenge awaited him.

He knew it was foolish and he was likely unnecessarily putting his life at risk but the decision had been made and there was no turning back now. Ryuku waited for only a couple hours before he dared to exit the room, taking the purple blanket with him just incase Shades were about.

Keeping the blanket wrapped about him like a shawl the large six foot two man looked rather foolish tip toeing through the darkness. There was no ball of light this time, not so close to their rooms.

The process was slow and agonizing as Ryuku slowly moved, using his memory to remember how empty the halls had been before. Eventually though the young man would turn a corner away from the room and begin his trek deeper into the building…closer to his goal.

As he walked, the edges of Ryuku's vision would dance, as though the shadows themselves were moving. Bringing the blanket had been a good idea; the shades paid his presence little mind.

The hallway extended for quite some distance, and many side rooms and other hallways branched off from it. These were irrelevant, however.

"It's in the very back of the building."

Ryuku would eventually reach the end of the hallway, which opened up into a large, multistory room. Shelves upon shelves of books were present, with a walkways along the sides of the room on a second story and ladders leading to them for even more volumes.

"At the back of the room, there's a row of bookshelves that ends before the wall...there's enough blank wall space beside it that they could have put another bookshelf in, but they didn't. If you search the nearby bookcase for a book with no title and pull on it, then..."

Ryuku had to rely on his memory to know exactly where he was going as well as the directions given to him, though it wasn’t terribly difficult. What was challenging was putting faith in the purple blanket that protected him from the things dancing just beyond his perception.

The blanket hadn’t failed him yet though and there was no reason thinking it would do so now. Ryuku walked into the old and large room that could have been nothing else except a library. If he had the time Ryuku would have liked to skim through the books for something of interest, but he did not and his gaze only shifted around too look for danger before he continued towards the back of the room.

Ryuku would systematically check the first floor first for the blank wall and then for the book with no title, if that failed he would try the second floor. There was a noticeable change in Ryukus demeanor as he moved what were once cautious and careful steps were now rush and every move was quick and exact, like a hound nearing it’s target and ready to be let off the leash, Ryuku was ready to spring into action.

It would take a bit of searching, especially in the limited light available in the library. That light would have to do, however; light greatly agitated shades, and if he had a light source it wasn't guaranteed that they'd leave him alone even with the purple blanket.

But it was there, and once pulled part of the wall next to the bookcase stuck out a bit--a hidden door, now unlatched. Inside was a staircase that led down...and down...and down.

At the very bottom was a large room, so large that in the darkness it was impossible to see the end of it--or the ceiling, as it was quite tall too.

Once there, on the right, there should just be a large lever...all it would take it is to throw that...yes, that surely would be enough...

Time lost all meaning to Ryuku as he searched the library for the hidden entrance, it had to be here somewhere he told himself. The limited light only frustrated him as he had to strain to see what he was doing and he dared not attempt to make more or even take off the blanket.

It seemed like forever and when he was ready to cry out in frustration he finally found it, the long staircase that lead to…well he’d find out.

Ryuku carefully descended the stairs and even though they seemed to go forever he was cautious of something the purple blanket wouldn’t ward off coming out of the darkness and attacking him. Eventually he reached the bottom and came into the largest room he had ever been in, or at least he was pretty sure it was the largest.

There was no way to tell exactly where he came out in the room, no walls and no ceiling. That alone told him maybe somewhere in the middle…maybe. Before he could venture off to wander and possibly get lost he moved to the right…searching for the large lever that was supposed to be somewhere in the area.
