Sunny Days

What was left of the world was thrown into ruin and disrepair. It's up to the survivors to reestablish their nations or form new ones.

Sunny Days

Postby Nayt on Thu Aug 13, 2009 1:32 am

(23:00:08) Nayt: Daniel Kerington set his bare foot upon the sand, hands upon his hips, eyes to the horizon, and a grin ever-present upon his face. Moments earlier, he had found himself and his companions at the ocean--specifically at a town which seemed to thrive on the fact that it was placed right at the ocean's edge. Geographically, they were somewhere above the nation that used to be called "Prompt," but had since ceased to be. One too many problems, and one too many shades, had brought that place to its knees--but this town was untouched. Daniel didn't even care what it was called. There were taverns and bars all specifically placed on a main dirt road, near where the sand began and lead to where the gentle waves lapped up upon the shore. Most of those taverns had rooms to rent out, too. This place must have made a killing off of the elves of Prompt before they all went their separate ways. There were people here, but they all seemed to either live here or were only stopping through, like Daniel and his companions, but that did not escape the fact that there was a goddamn ocean to be had. The fifteen year old Daniel stood in only a pair of shorts, his bushy brown hair threatening to overtake his brow in the breeze that passed him by. He wasn't built like a rock by any means, but he lacked an ounce of fat on his body. Really, he was just average for his age. Nothing seemed to change that, but the pose did. Or at least it should have! And damnit, it would have, too, were this town still popular! There would have been elven women everywhere, clad in dutifully bathing suits, all laying out to get a summer tan, only to be interrupted by Daniel's arrival--and their admiration, presumably instantaneous, would have lead to absolutely amazing things.

At least in Daniel's mind.

Oh well, he thought to himself, It's still early. I'm sure people'll come out soon enough!

(23:14:22) Syntaphar: A figure dressed in outdoorsman garb would pierce the town border, looking rather confused. For Jan Syntaphar though, that was generally the case. It happened so often that he didn't let it get to him. He had no idea what town he had stumbled upon, but he did know the former name of the area. Prompt. The name was quite ironic in a way that escaped Jan at the moment. But, seeing as he had been wandering for entirely too long, he would begin walking down the main drag of the town. Every once in a while, he would idly clap his hands together, making a rather loud clanking noise from the gauntlets he perpetually wore. He considered renting one of the rooms in the taverns, but decided that he would rather sleep outside the city limits than sleep in a place like that. So, on he trekked, a serene smile plastered upon his face. He was determined to make the day interesting.

(23:23:27) Mandaz: “Uhh Daniel.” A nervous voice peeped from behind him. The newest edition to Daniel’s cadre crept behind him, looking about as uncomfortable in his skin as any person could. Manny was a pale, scrawny little kid. Daniel looked like Adonis compared to his freckled body. His red auburn hair fell way past his brow and threatened to invade his nostrils, hiding his wide, childish eyes completely. Age wise he wasn’t much younger than Daniel, but he was a bit shorter and a little more timid. The sun practically illuminated his unhealthily pale flesh, bare from head to toe with the exception of long, red swimming pants that brushed against his knees.

“Where’d you say we were again? I’ve never seen anything like this before.” He mused while his mouth fell open in bewilderment, brandishing bucked teeth. He stood very close to Daniel’s back. Nervously taking in the sites and smells. “Oh yeah.” Manny said finally. “I think we lost Everett.”

(23:28:14) Nayt: Clanking metal. Hm. Interesting. Daniel turned his head to the side. Yes, yes, that was what he heard. It sounded much like someone was clapping their hands, but why? Well, actually, as he thought about it, why not? It was the goddamn ocean! If someone happened to be wearing gauntlets or armor or something of the like, but was particularly excited by the smell of salt water, they'd damn well better have the right to clap their hands in a show of appreciation. If Daniel remembered correctly, he clapped rather joyously when he smelled salt water, too. His thoughts were interrupted accordingly, however, as a voice spoke to him from behind. Daniel almost jumped out of his skin, but did not show it. Slowly, he turned around to glance back at Manny. "Wait, whot? We lost Everett?" Daniel asked rhetorically. Aw shit, really? "Where'd she go? oI mean, hell! We're at the ocean, roight? It'd just be unnatural if she didn't come down here for a dip." And wear a delicious bathing suit in the process. The latter part went unstated, however. Nonetheless, he answered Manny's question accordingly and addressed the lack of a female in their party at the same time. Incidentally, the lack of female had been his number one concern, but it all worked out. Accidentally.

(23:36:08) Syntaphar: Jan continued his sightseeing venture until the road ended. He then doubled back to keep an eye on the other side of the main drag. He then realized that just off of it was the ocean. This didn't click right in his head. According to his calculations, he had been wandering straight away from the last oceanfront town for days now. Oddly enough, that town was set up much like this one was... He took a familiar detour off of the road, and to his shock, he was standing on the very same beach he had tread upon a full week previously! All he could do at this point was laugh loudly at himself, and with a small clank, skip a nearby rock across the ocean tides. Just like he had done last time. "Ah well," thought he, "I suppose I wouldn't have let myself come back here so quickly if it weren't a particularly nice place to stay." He would continue laughing at himself, sit upon the sand, and wonder where he was going to go next.

(23:45:51) Mandaz: “I dunno” Manny hopped back, “She said sumthin’ about wasting time in the water and calculating travel routes. I think she went off to lookat a map or something. I was sorta only half listening. She says a lot, ya know? Like that guy, over there!” Manny pointed very obviously at Jan, waggling his bitten finger at the strange agent. “He’s been talking to himself for a bit now. You can hear him, yeah? He’s not making a lot of sense is he? Ya think we otta find Everett or just hang out until she finds us. Either way we’d better get away from that odd ball over there.”

(23:50:22) Nayt: Hm. Nearby, a particular fellow has made his way to the sand, only to laugh, skip a stone into the water, and laugh again. Daniel peered at him oddly. That was not his idea of a person coming out to play in the water. Not only was this a male upon the beach, but he was fully dressed. There was no way a person was going to enter the water like that. Daniel was a little disappointed by this, but did not show it. Rather, he glanced back to Manny instead. That other fellow on the beach might just notice them, though. After all, there were seemingly a total of three people at the shore, oddly enough--the fully dressed fellow, Daniel, and Manny, and they weren't too terribly far from each other. "Eh. Leave it to her to not know the definition of fun," Daniel replied with a shrug of his shoulders. The strange agent over there was, indeed, quite the odd one; that was the man that was still fully dressed, despite being at the shore. He looked harmless enough, and if all else failed, Daniel had a coin in his pocket. There was only one, for fear of losing others in the ocean, but it was a good one. "Ehhh, he looks foine. Dunno why he's not wearin' shorts, but he looks foine. Why don't we just go for a dip, anyways? Moight make you feel better, oI'm guessin'!"

(00:02:15) Syntaphar: From his monasterial training, Jan could hear the disparaging remarks quite clearly. And well, Jan Syntaphar was nothing if not a spiteful man. While he didn't necessarily object to being called strange, it was hard to resist acting even odder upon hearing a remark about it."I'll show them oddball." he thought. He would go into one of the nearby gift stores and buy a rather large basket of beach rocks meant as souvenirs with a chunk of his pocket change. He would then bring them back to the shore and basically perform a caricature of how he was acting moments ago. specifically, he would start hurling stones into the ocean and cackling. He had been here twice, and thus didn't really plan on visiting again. He didn't mind alienating a couple of locals. However, one unfortunate side effect of this outburst was danger to anyone in a particular section of ocean. The rocks were flying pretty much everywhere.

(00:12:59) (Manny): Manny looked out to the vast ocean before him. It was such a big, intimating, unknown thing. As it lapped and crashed against the sand’s uneven surface, the rhythm seemed to synch with his heart and draw him closer. Beckoning him into the abyss. His eyes strained to see that which was beyond the water, but were met with nothing but blue. Never had the color been so terrifying and yet so soothing. As the water ebbed and flowed, his feet followed the pattern. Two steps forward for the pull of the tide, one step back for the pushing of the waves. He did this dance until his toes flirted with the edge of the water, meeting for the first time. It was sweet and relaxing, filling Manny with a sense of safety and oneness with nature. He could not be harmed here.

Manny’s next thoughts were black ones, as his head met the soaked sand below. A strange, flying stone had clocked him square in the back of the head, sending the unsuspecting victim face first into the tide-line where burning salt water rushed into his nostrils.

(00:14:16) (Johnny): "Watch out!" A voice called from a hill overlooking the beach. A thirty-and-change year old man sat, his skin pale and his body still clothed, despite the heat. He didn't seem to mind, but certainly didn't seem suited to the beach. His hair was similarly pale, a blond that was practically white, and his eyes were covered with comically oversized sunglasses that also seemed to shield the rest of his face from the sun. Essentially, only his mouth, jaw, and rumpled hair were exposed to the harsh and unforgiving sun. His warning, however, had been too little, too late...

(00:22:51) (Daniel): Daniel followed by Manny's side, hands shoved into the pockets of his shorts. He couldn't remember a decent time he'd been at the ocean. The last one he had stood at for any length of time had this black, choppy water that looked kind of like dark, extremely viscous oil. Daniel had been way too hesitant to stick his feet in that water. That aside, he couldn't remember a time he'd been at the ocean before. Except this one time, when he was a little kid. He and these other kids were at a beach. He couldn't remember exactly what happened then, but it was a happy time. One of his friends had this strange hair color. Blue, it looked like. He was kind of a weird kid. And the other boy had real pale skin and was afraid of being out in the sun for too long. There was also a little girl there, too, but she didn't go in the water. She was a little sick at the time. Wait, what? But just as Daniel thought about it, he heard a shout--a warning of some sort. He glanced around quickly, snapping himself out of his momentary lapse in not thinking, only to find Manny face first into the sand near Daniel's feet, the strange man back, chucking much larger stones with great vigor, and a blond haired man nearby, from whom the late warning came. "Wh-- whot the hell?" Daniel asked aloud. First instinct was to reach down, put his arms under Manny's arms, and help him back up. Which he did promptly. Second instinct was to ask again: "Whot the hell?"

(00:25:19) Cataclysm: Light steps were taken down what appeared to have once been a frequently traveled path, as time had passed, however; the path appeared to have gotten smaller and grass had already started to overtake it. This was to be expected though and if the traveler had her way, she would not have even been in the ruined nation, let alone becoming one of the few who bothered to use [i]the road not taken[i]. Prompt and her had history, as much as she hated it, it was where things had went wrong for her, and because of that; she found herself drawn to the place. Respecting the dead, she did not openly fill the silence with curses, but instead remained in quiet thought, continuing on the path before her, and stopping only when it ended and gave way to beach. The beach itself was expansive, it appeared, and the ground she stood upon ended in a slope. She had done some research before entering the area, there was a town nearby, probably even visible if she had bothered to look for it, but she wasn’t here for the town--she was here for herself, the beach, and closure. Already she could hear the sound of others, her internal alarms going off one by one, but ultimately being ignored. Nobody knew she was here, nobody wanted to hurt her, not anymore, not that she knew about, anyways. She had left Freya, her father was dead, the organization, itself, was in tatters, and even their base of operations had been crashed somewhere. What other choice did she have? There were too many bad memories that she could not face, and far too many expectations that she could not live up to. Stepping down from the slope, the girl took a breath of the salty air and kicked at the sand, letting go of the cloak that obscured her body, revealing a black material wrapped around both her arms, and her chest and legs covered in crimson cloth, her top was strangely reminiscent of a shozoku, although shorter, sleeveless, and far more loose than practical, and the cloth covering her legs ended just before the knees. Locks of blue hair were pushed away from her face and eyes, allowing her to peer towards the vastness of the sea, and … …
“<Great,>“ she said aloud. “<Craziness follows me.>“

(00:32:17) (Jan): Damn. Jan's spite had admittedly gone a bit too far, and someone had gotten hurt in the process. Repeatedly yelling apologies, the traveler would leap into the ocean fully clothed and begin to swim towards the unlucky child. Luckily enough, he had patched himself up enough times to know most basic first aid strategies. The gauntlet's on Jan's hands would slow him down a little, as the added weight would be even harder to move underwater. However, in the stress of the moment, it hardly brought down his swimming speed. Assuming no one tried to stop him in their assumption that he would make things worse, Jan would pull the kid to shore to assess the situation.

(00:39:48) (Manny): Manny’s eyes opened before he was lifted out of the drink. It was only a temporary black out caused by sudden, comedic trauma. The world seemed to move slower as he was lifted, and for some reason he couldn’t take his eyes off of a little crab who’s burrow his nose had so rudely disturbed. It scuttled back and forth before disappearing beneath the sand and waves, never to be seen again. He could have sworn he heard it threaten him though. But maybe that was just the sound of his brain settling back into place after being roughed around a bit. With a flurry of coughs and a rather disgusting, nasally noise the sand and salt were purged from his body (all of what he hadn’t swallowed, anyway). The only good thing about it was that he could no longer feel the throbbing in his head due to the horrible mess of nature that had invaded his face. Still, the effort into saving him was greatly appreciated, and wouldn’t go unthanked. “ugh. Dank you.” He moaned, still with an ever-present, buck-toothed smile on his sand-caked face. “Ahh. I dink I made ‘im mad.” Whether he was referring to Jan or the crab would forever be a mystery.

(00:44:33) (Johnny): The unsuited stranger would walk to the edge of the water curiously, almost seeming to not understand the possible gravity of the situation. The sunglasses were dark almost to the point of opaqueness, but Johnny didn't seem to mind at all. He just looked on with a child-like curiosity, not really understanding. He was eager to help, perhaps, but wasn't going to unless someone told or asked him to. Still, his age made him the oldest of the group, most likely. He just didn't seem to understand why...

(00:47:42) (Daniel): Daniel had genuinely thought that he had picked Manny up and pulled him up before he was taken out to sea, but in the end, his arms were empty. Initially, he was confused. Just like the previous memory, it made little to not sense. He'd never been to a nice beach before, and he'd never actually picked Manny up. In the end, it was the same man that had accidentally knocked him out that had swam out into the water to collect Manny and drag him to shore. For a moment, Daniel did nothing, only stared at the fully dressed and now dubiously soaked man, before glancing towards the blond that issued the prior warning, who seemed to be approaching now--and what looked like a girl that was also approaching, but stopped at a distance to stare at them. Daniel blinked a few times confusedly. "Whot the hell?" he asked again. This was just a little weird, but there were a few more important things to deal with than those silly thoughts. Without another moment of hesitation, scurried to the strange agent and Manny, who was just now coming to. There, Daniel fell to one knee. "Oh man! Whot the hell happened here?" He asked. Hopefully he'd get an answer this time.

(00:51:54) (Yoné): Like the pale man in sunglasses, the blue haired girl would also make her way to the edge of the water, opposite of the man, but somewhat close to the two who had made landfall out of necessity. Blue eyes scanned the two, looking for injuries, although whether or not she was studying them for weaknesses to exploit, or making sure the one who was hit was alright--well, that was unknown. It was mostly habit, though. She was quiet by nature and particularly troubled by her past, she was never given the comfort of taking life easy, or being under prepared. Shifting her gaze onto the other boy, who appeared just about her age, the girl instantly felt a dislike towards him, she couldn’t even explain it, but a wave of displeasure and contempt could possibly be felt emanating from her. Still, she ignored him, focusing back on the other two, and then back towards the ocean. Why couldn’t the beach have been empty, she thought.

(00:54:03) (Jan): (Jan freaks out for a while and runs off for medical help. <e>)

(01:01:44) (Johnny): Eager at the thought of actually being able to help, Johnny immediately runs off in pursuit of Jan. Lacking, it seems, the foresight to do anything useful, he would instead disappear just as quickly as he arrived in a misguided attempt. Little did he know, he may never see the quiet and secluded beach again...

(01:08:40) (Manny): “I’m okay! Really! Promise!” He assured, although he was a little surprised to look up and see just Daniel again. He could have sworn there were more people around. Maybe it was just him being delirious again. Manny began the arduous process of wiping the sand from his cheeks and hair, but something deep inside told him that it was all futile and the sand would never really come out. He looked around, his hidden eyes catching the sight of a new girl that looked to be the age of Daniel and he. Manny averted his embarrassed face away from her, attempting to shake out the sand without being noticed any more.

(01:15:02) (Daniel): "Well, okay . . ." Daniel trailed off. None of this still explained what the hell actually happened, though. The man that had gotten him from the water had run off somewhere, as did the blond man with shades. This left Manny and Daniel alone with the blue haired . . . beauty? Yes. Yes, the blue haired beauty. Daniel may have been relatively worried about the well being of his good friend Manny here, but he didn't see exotic women like that very often. A man had to stare when there was a girl like that around, not out of rudeness, but out of obligation. Especially if she were attractive. And this one was dubiously attractive. She looked about his age, too. Unlike Everett, who looked, like, a year or two younger than Manny. Daniel was tempted to jump over Manny's body and introduce himself promptly, but that would have been just a little irresponsible! He needed to make sure his friend could stand well, first. So, without actually asking if Manny needed any help, Daniel reached down and took the boy's arm, helping him stand rather promptly, before at last slinking by him without a word and making a casual bee-line for the blue haired beauty. "Hey there! Noice day, don't you think?" Daniel called out as his ideal greeting. Yes. Yes, it was perfect. The only way this could go wrong would be if Manny was as all right as he suggested he was, and followed behind to greet the girl as well. He was a pretty cool dude, sure, but he did not make picking up girls any easier!

(01:21:37) (Yoné): Manny’s reaction to the girl brought her focus back onto him, even if it seemed the last thing he had wanted at that moment, but the girl merely shrugged and instead she softened her features, her gaze becoming less stern: “Are you okay,” she asked. “You are not hurt, right”
Her common was practiced and pronunciation was well-done, however; it was her second language and it would all sound very unnatural, a tinge of accent underlining each spoken word. It would seem that Manny would only get a scarce moment to answer, as Daniel made his way to the girl, who immediately hardened her gaze again, her features betraying a tad amount of annoyance.
“Should you not check to see if your friend is alright?”
She asked calmly, even if her first instinct was to put the boy on the floor, but … She didn’t want to cause trouble, they seemed harmless enough. Funny enough, the boy hadn’t even confirmed the girl’s name, instead slipping right into conversation … “Yes, yes. Nice day.”
She finally said to Daniel, as she looked passed him, almost blowing him off entirely, and instead looking back to Manny, “I’m Yona,” she said. “Just … Yona.”

(01:29:57) (Manny): “Mmh” was the little affirmative noise that came from his closed lips, accompanied by a slight nod. Manny was glad most of his facial features were hidden behind his uncut bangs, that way he didn’t have to worry about making a dumb facial expression, or about the girl seeing the lingering salt water in his eyes that had reddened them to make it seem as if he were crying. Which was a preposterous idea indeed! It was good that she didn’t seem too terribly interested in him. Even less to worry about! Not he could get back to focusing on the sand and the hurt in his head.

(01:35:35) (Daniel): Ouch. Harsh denial. Like, mondo harsh. Harsh like whoa. So, okay. Maybe focusing on the girl too quickly was the bad choice. Yeah, it definitely was. This girl wasn't going to dig a guy that would leave a bro behind, which was totally understandable. Daniel might have been a little put off by that, too . . . were it not for the fact that he had already sort of blown Manny off in a show of defunct prioritization abilities. So, Daniel stopped in mid approach, one leg still lifted and ready to march forward into the sand, before he turned on his heel to face Manny. If he was going to get this girl's attention, he needed to be a moral fellow. Which was easy! Daniel was already a moral fellow, he just couldn't prioritize worth a damn! "Uhhh," Daniel tried to speak, but had accidentally swallowed his tongue, "oI'm Daniel, and this is Manny." That's right. If he introduced Manny, the blue haired beauty, Yona, would certainly have a higher opinion of Daniel. Nonetheless, Daniel took a few steps of retraction to return to Manny. "Hey, man. You sure you're okay? You moight wanna wash your face off in the water. Or your 'ole body. Looks loike you got sand all over you."

(01:42:48) (Yoné): The girl quirked her head to the side, quickly forming one very simple word on her tongue, but stifling it before it could be spoken. This word was: unbelievable. That was not to say, however; that this did not give her an idea, it gave her quite a few, actually.
“You know … Daniel, was it? Asking your friend if he is alright after I mention it does not speak very well of you.” In a disinterested way, she placed a hand on her thigh, almost expectantly, and waited to gauge his reaction to her words.

(01:51:12) (Manny): Somewhere in his head Manny was flattered that they were so concerned over his wellbeing. But another part of him thought that maybe that’s not what their conversation was about. He didn’t really feel much like standing, but sitting on the warm sand was nice, and feeling the sun creep up his back. His fingers lazily circled the sand as he listened to their conversation. He left like a little kid listening to grown-up discussions, despite them all being similar in age.

“Daniel’s a good friend.” He mumbled to the sand, he rally meant to say it louder, but that’s all the more his voice rang out. “Really? Sand all over me?” he said a bit louder this time, looking all over his exposed body for the wretched stuff. He could find mo more than what he expected and simply stared at his friend strangely for a moment. “I uhh…I think these are my freckles dude…”

(01:54:52) (Daniel): Aw man, no way, that is totally not it! Daniel thought to himself, but specifically refrained from saying this, as part of him understood that Yona was right about one thing: returning to Manny had been completely inspired by her. But that wasn't a bad thing, was it? No, it couldn't be. It just meant that she was as inspiring as she was beautiful. Yes, yes, that was absolutely the case! But just as he was about to utter those specific words, Manny addressed him, calling Daniel a good friend, and warming his heart and stabbing it in the side simultaneously. That shit was seriously harsh. Harsh like whoa. Nervously, Daniel scratched the back of his head. "Man. You got a lot of freckles, then," Daniel muttered under his breath, but as he was standing right next to Manny, he would no doubt be heard by him. Not that freckles were a bad thing! If Daniel remembered correctly, Everett had freckles, too, and they were cute. So, if freckles made someone cute, that must have meant that they boosted Manny's attractiveness a little ways, too. Wait, what the hell am I thinking? Without a word, Daniel patted Manny on the shoulder. The kid could be handsome if he wanted. Daniel sincerely thought that, but in a completely heterosexual way. He could only hope that this exchange between he and Manny convinced Yona that Daniel was totally not as much of a bastard as she was already making him out to be.

(02:00:18) (Yoné): Yona was beginning to think that Daniel was hopelessly … Eccentric. In ways that she was not prepared to deal with, even. Although, being the person to crush any and all optimism within him would probably have been enjoyable, it just didn’t seem like she would have any luck with that; similarly, Daniel would not have much luck with Yona, either. Feeling the wind pick up momentarily, the girl ran her hand through her hair again, once again looking out towards the ocean before returning her attention to the two boys. Socially inept, Yona had no friends, and she hadn’t been in many situations to make any, either. This explains her quick, almost defensive dislike towards Daniel, and trying to play the two against each other--but it seemed Manny was a bit too meek for that role.

“So what brings you two out here?”
Even as she asked, she regretted it. She could probably guess Daniel’s motivations.

(02:08:11) (Manny): “Never seen the ocean before.” Manny admitted, looking out to it again. He pulled his knees to his chest and flicked a grain of sand off if his nose. “It’s pretty. Kinda dangerous though. Daniel said something about near naked glistening babes but I haven’t seen many aside from you.” it was a bit of a strange comment that he didn’t mean to have entirely worded the way it was. Manny seemed to be unawares thought and continued to stare off into the water.

Oh man. Oh man! Manny really said it! Maybe Daniel hadn't given Manny enough credit. That line was so smooth, and thrown out there like it was second nature--like he was just talking and making conversation. Daniel could have never done that. For a brief moment, Daniel stared at Manny with the utmost shock and confusion. He never would've thought that Manny would have the guts to say it, but he did, and he did it well. He pulled that off better than Daniel Kerington ever could. If Daniel had spent his entire life training in the ways of smooth talking a woman, he would still not have been able to pull off the epic maneuver of Manny's.

If this granted Manny the win, well goddamnit, he deserved it.

Daniel said nothing, though. He wanted to wait this one out and see how Yona was going to react. Maybe it would end poorly. Maybe she'd be all up in arms against Manny, and Daniel would be able to come in as a sly mediator, and just maybe that would perpetuate his chances of riding off into the sunset with this blue haired beauty. Maybe, just maybe. Unfortunately, it was highly unlikely. Manny wasn't going to fail. He'd come out of nowhere with that comment, and proved once and for all that he was one smooth operator.

“G-glist … Glist-en-ing … babes?”

The girl stood there with a puzzled look about her, she spoke common, did pretty well with pronunciation, but sadly there were some words she still did not quite understand fully. Glistening was a little too large for her, she had used mostly small words when speaking to the boys, and babes … Well, she knew what a baby was, at any rate.

“I am sorry,” she apologized… “I, I do not understand.”

She shook her head and instead looked to Daniel, who looked to be both confused and pleased at the same time, or so Yona thought. Really, since Manny was talking about Daniel, then …

“Danny,” she spoke as though she were already familiar with the boy, not even bothering with an honorific, but it seemed right for some reason. “Came for naked,” she knew what that word was, “glist-en-ing babies? You are mistaken, I am not a baby.”

The girl was truly perplexed, she looked just about the same age as both boys, having turned sixteen last November, so there was no logical reason why she would be mistaken for a baby, and further more why was she thought to be naked? She wasn’t, she was fully clothed and maybe even inappropriately dressed for the beach.
