>> Persona.

Demeanor: Professional, respectful, calm, and calculated, Attis is well received and loved by the majority of people, Memories and "others," that he encounters. He spends much time considering the well being of others, regardless of enmity or friendship. For example, Attis has no intentions of harming the other Purgatory denizens that hunt he and his kind, despite the fact that they--the Memories--have the capability of doing so with great tenacity. He does have a strong sense of the "greater good," however . . .

History: As a Memory, Attis's motif is unclear. Other Memories, such as Dyss, Aria, Ozrik, and the like, can recall numerous instances of "life" that fit a motif. Ozrik, for example, has a motif of travel. Attis is one of the few Memories that never discusses or discloses anything that he can remember before his "birth." Memories are temporary and conscious beings born from the collective memories of souls in Purgatory that were incapable of passing on and were destroyed through some means--dissolving into Purgatory over time, being devoured by a creature that preys on weak souls, or being destroyed by anything else that could have hunted them. Attis and his kind, the Memories, have only a short period of time to live before they are absorbed into Purgatory and cease to be. The dream of every Memory is to have a sense of permanence: to live like a human being, die, and move on to the afterlife.

Attis has taken part in at least two different plans to give permanence to his fellow Memories:

The Rubicon Project. A "river" of energy was found beneath the surface of Purgatory's dead and dried earth. It boasted a potentially infinite source of spiritual energy. The energy itself flowed like a river, and was aptly named the Rubicon River, after which the project was named. The general idea was that the damming and harvesting of the massive source of energy could allow them enough energy to develop methods of increasing the life span of Memories, and potentially even manufacture a method of stabilizing the souls of Memories--to allow their spirits permanence.

Numerous other Memories were recruited to partake in the excavation of the Rubicon, including a man named Ozrik, and later Ozrik's girlfriend, Aria. Ozrik eventually became Attis's partner during the project, and even an overseer of the excavation (alongside Attis).

Project Rubicon, which in Attis's notes (later found by Dyss when passing through the ruins of the primary excavation site), was ran by "Dues ex Memoria," of which Attis claimed to be a member.

The project mysteriously ended in failure. Attis's notes revealed that a catastrophe of some sort lead to the condemning of excavation sites and the project entirely, and the Rubicon River is no longer accessible. The notes also revealed that over-exposure to the river itself caused psychological changes in subjects, always for the worst. How or why has yet to be unveiled, but the lingering spirits of Ozrik and Aria still remain in the abandoned facility . . .

The Flux Reduction Project. A discovery of Attis's and refined searching lead Attis and his companion Recheov to find science behind spiritual fluxes between Utopia and Purgatory. Spiritual fluxes are instances when the Qi [spiritual energy] is unequal between Utopia and Purgatory. The living and dead world naturally maintain balance between each other, which can be exploited. If the collective Qi in a region of Utopia spikes suddenly, it takes time for the Qi of Purgatory to match it, and vice versa. This is called a positive flux. Energy sapped from an area causes the collective Qi of the corresponding world to decrease gradually--a negative flux. Harvesting Qi from Purgatory as is creates a negative flux which predators and their hunters can notice from miles away, but harvesting Qi from an area of a positive spirit flux leaves them completely unnoticeable.

A massive spirit flux was found in southeast Algeroth, and Attis sent his friend Dyss to the "living" world to establish a base camp for their team before their inevitable arrival.

Attis has expressed a desire to keep this project a secret from his fellows, and though he never verbally mentioned the "Deus ex Memoria," the notes that Dyss discovered in the ruins of the Rubicon River Excavation Site suggested a break between Attis and the Memoria . . .
