XT05 - Qi Shielding Unit: “Asylum”
Status: Work in progress
Classification: Prototype - Slated for mass production upon completion; Level A approval.

Prototype XT05, designated the code-name: Asylum, is the fifth in a series of projects previously scrapped because of a low-yield in the Qi conversion process and an unfortunate event during XT04's field test; however, that particular malfunction has been singled out, eliminated, and preventive measures have been taken to ensure nothing like it occurs again. [Further inquiries on the matter should be directed to Dr. Uta and her team.] The XT series is an advancement in Qi manipulation & transmutation - ultimately, the process is meant to generate a [physical] kekkai, or barrier in the common tongue. As the name implies, it is heavily based on the Cizokian concept and magical phenomenon often demonstrated by the nation's priests and priestesses. There are many applications for a skill such as kekkai, but the inefficiency in both time and resources proved too great a strain and so the project was forwarded to me; it was from this request that the XT series was born. While the development of XT05 is in its final stretches, it should be noted that as of right now, the output of the model cannot exceed its input. The quality of the barrier is directly proportionate to the amount of energy placed into it and it is therefore recommended that only specialists or agents with specialist-level Qi manipulation abilities be issued an XT05 Qi Shielding Unit upon project completion. While the requirements for the XT05 will lower as improvements are made, nothing substantial is predicted to change and the prerequisites will likely remain the same. Alternatively, for emergency use, the XT05 could be issued to normal agents, but only if they are aware of the device's limitations and the likelihood of the barrier only holding for a brief amount of time.
