Ugh . . . . . . . virus trouble.

This goddamn thing still isn't dead. I spent all damn day yesterday trying to clean it off, too. Whatever. I'm going to disconnect from the 'net again today. Sorry to those I owe posts to, but it's impossible to write when my anti-virus is popping up (literally) every five minutes, telling me that there's a new virus trying to get in.

I'll have this fixed by tonight, one way or the other.

I'm hoping you don't use Norton.

It's a point well made! Avast, AVG Free, and Antivir are both comprehensive anti-virus systems that do more with their free versions than Norton does all paid up.

Yep, that's exactly what I was going to tell him if he replied that he did, in fact, use Norton.

Norton is also a resource hog. I've seen a I've seen a computer with a core-2 DUO processor, with 2 gigs of ram, actually bogged down by the latest version of Norton.

I use Avast, and it has failed me, actually. The virus is still there. I've put a total of two whole days into it.

At this point, I'm going to turn Avast off (because I'm tired of getting the "Virus detected!" message every five minutes), and allow my computer to destroy itself from the inside-out until this weekend, when I can reinstall windows.

Wait! You should always try more than one anti-virus, do not ever -- I repeat, ever -- rely on just one anti-virus. Otherwise, you're going to do exactly what you're about to do and lose everything. Try cross-referencing with one of the other programs mentioned before you do anything drastic. Also, don't forget that not every anti-virus is perfect (also another reason to cross-reference) and it could be just as much a false alarm as it is a real issue. So you should definitely cross reference before you defrag/restore/etc, Nate.

Actually, the professional version of Trend Micro's House Call found absolutely nothing. I'm pretty sure that there is officially no saving this install of Windows.

You know, if you had really wanted to defeat me, you would have framed me with CP. By bombing me, you've just left me the opportunity to come back twice as strong.

It's only framing you if you're not actually guilty, you know.
