. . . . History
When Remmy, Sarah, and Emma's mother died, Sarah was only four years old. To this day, the only memory Sarah has of her mother is a vague one: time spent picking flowers on the countryside. At the time of her mother's death, the Vaerbonds had settled in the island country of Rivvil, a country ruled by the most elite of mages. The Vaerbond family resided in an isolated town for non-mages. When the magocracy of Rivvil intended to evict the magically inept from this village, many refused. The magocracy had the town burned to the ground, and Sarah's mother--a former adventurer alongside of her husband--stayed behind in the village to ensure the rest of her family's escape.
Sarah has no recollection of this.
The Vaerbond family relocated to the small town of Hillcrest, Algeroth, far from mages and supernatural forces of all kinds. Sarah spent most of her life in this village. She worked on her fathers farm alongside of her brother--and later, her younger sister Emma--which developed her into a rather tough, tomboyish child.
Whenever a boy felt he was superior to her in whatever way for whatever reason, she felt obligated to compete with him and often times beat him to a pulp if an excuse for his failure was ever made. For the longest time, Sarah alienated most boys in Hillcrest with independent aggression and an outright authoritative attitude. There was one boy that was willing to live under her immature iron fist, however: Eldridge Tsukimono. Until she began to drag him along to places, Sarah's only real friend was a frail and shy girl by the name of Mayako Takamine--the village priest's daughter. She and Mayako were close like sisters, though Sarah's rebellious attitude often had Mayako steer Sarah clear of spending much time at the Takamine household.
It was shortly after Eld began to hang around Sarah that Emma, Sarah's younger sister, began to tag along--and soon after, Sarah and Emma's older brother Remmy began to babysit them regularly. Sarah spent her early adolescent years with this social group, only adding a boyfriend into it every so often--and only temporarily, as she had a habit of pushing them away by emasculating them.
Life was comfortable a horde of thieves lead by a man named Theleaus began a routine pillaging of Hillcrest, whereupon they forced labor for their own needs. Remmy mounted a rebellion against them utilizing most men of the village in fighting condition, including Eld. They successfully pushed by the thieves, but Remmy was killed in the process. Sarah's perfect world instantly began to break apart at the seams. Nothing of that world remained, just an illusion of it, when Eld was mysteriously inducted into a supernatural force: the Reapers, the very people that guided the dead into the beyond. Sarah, an atheist before this, was torn. More important, however, was the notion that Eld would have to permanently leave the village, with his guide a girl named Etsu Hikane that began to stay with Eld.
It was only when she realized that Eld would not be in her life forever that she understood her feelings for him--which, regrettably, was too late. The knowledge that Eld might soon leave ensured that they could not pursue a satisfying relationship. She was not above competing with Mayako and Etsu for Eld's affections, though, despite the fact that she had no intentions of making good on them: she simply didn't want to see Eld with anyone else but her. This came to an abrupt halt when Mayako revealed her love for Eld, something which she'd apparently kept hidden for years, and Eld, unable to return her feelings, broke Mayako's heart. Immediately feeling the need to defend her best friend's honor, Sarah dropped all competition with her and proceeded to beat Eld to a pulp.
Over time, Sarah was able to cope with her feelings for Eld, especially after (re)meeting Noah Herst, a boy from Hillcrest that had been away at college for some time. She began a happy relationship with Noah, eventually losing her want to be with Eld, replaced instead by a want to be with Noah.
This, too, was cut short, when Noah was warped by a man known only as "the Law," a sociopath gangster in the nearby township of Galaens. Mutilated and bent on revenge, Noah began to kill off the Law's men one by one--murders which became increasingly more frequent and violent. He was eventually stopped and "taken care of" by Eld, who also dealt with the Law shortly thereafter. Eld's treatment of Noah and his apparent refusal to try and bring him back to Hillcrest elicited hateful response from Sarah. While she eventually forgave him, it became impossible to conjure the same attachment for him that she once had.
Eventually, Eld left the village to join the Reapers in full.
Soon after, Sarah's father died of a heart attack.
Unable to maintain the farm without her father, Sarah was forced to sell off the horses she'd raised since she was a little girl. The comfortable world she'd established for herself no longer existed, even as an illusion.
Unable to cope anymore, Sarah left Hillcrest without a word.

"Civilian" talent(s) — Sarah is skilled with raising and training animals of most any domestic species--she can even domesticate certain wild animals, given the time.
Fighting skill — None. Though Sarah has committed herself to becoming a wayward wanderer, she has not formally learned any brand of fighting talent; she's effectively been passed up by her friends--Mayako and Eld--and her younger sister Emma, all of whom Sarah at once point held physical dominance over. She can do little more than throw a pretty mean punch.
