Sadly, the tiny girl could not move the stone obelisk that was Alec Lanning. As she began to walk away with Alec's hand, she'd feel a tug in the opposite direction when she reached the length of their combined arm span; Alec barely noticed what was going on, but that tiny tug snapped him out of his deep concentration. He turned to Harold, using the same speech-bubble language as before, "Mr. Harold, I know of a place I'd like to go. Could you drop us off? I'll see that Yan makes it home safely."

Harold peered at Alec nervously once again, thinking to himself that the girl was in absolutely no way his responsibility and that if the zombie ate her and caused an epidemic to spread, wiping out the entire human population of whatever country the zombie wanted to go to, that was also not his fault. Though, it would be bad for business, as zombies aren't civilized enough to be collectible and would have the bad habit of trying to eat house guests. Still, better to distance himself from this problem before anyone found out. Without another word, Harold plucked the location the zombie wanted to travel to from his memories and called upon the shadows he used to travel. Darkness surged from underneath Harold's cloak, forming a hazy bubble around the three acquaintances, sucking them into a universe separate from the established one; an ethereal plane where two points were only as far as you willed them to be--but also a place where neither Alec nor Yan could technically exist, so Harold made sure to keep their time there as brief as possible. In some amount of time less than a moment but greater than negative point zero two seconds, Alec Lanning and Yan were deposited at their destination. Harold, on the other hand, was speeding home, away from the little girl who didn't exist and would very likely soon die by the hand of a zombie he'd accidentally not created. Thank God he'd never deviated from his course when he didn't hear the little girl who didn't exist screaming for someone to save a corpse who was not there either. Yes. Thank goodness for that.

Yan and Alec would find themselves in a large, open field of green grass at the center of a ruined stone labyrinth. Most of the walls had crumbled and fallen even before The End, many of them straining to maintain waist-height. A few pillars still stood, an archway here and there, but The End hadn't affected things as much around the perimeter as it had the place which was once Alec's home in the center. The grass was scorched in places, and whole boulders of sod were missing, blasted from the earth by some tremendous force; but many of those had been there as well. The smell of ash filled the air, and smoke could be seen a few yards across the grass, on the opposite side of the field. They stood in front of a circular stone building, barely as wide as two men standing abreast, with a heavy wooden door. Alec sighed heavily when he saw his family crest in eye-popping brilliance above the doorway.

"Just like I left it..."

"Hm?"

Yan was confused when Alec stopped, just a moment ago he was making their situation sound to incredibly urgent, so why he stopped was completely beyond Yan, but apparently he had something to discuss with Harold. Adult things probably, something Yan wouldn't understand until she was old enough. Grown ups were weird like that. She would stand there quiet, not interrupting, just staring at the weird words Alec spoke, because unlike regular old words when these two people talked you could actually see them. It was a nifty trick really, Yan wanted to know if she could do it too, she asked only when he was done talking.

"hey Mr Alec how do-"

Her sentence was cut short because very suddenly the scenery had changed without explanation. If she knew exactly how the change had occured, she might have cried. It happened too fast though, and so it was more of a quick teleportation instead of a journey into a realm she shouldn't have existed in. There were still it's effects on the miniscule being. The drastic and quick changes confused her, and startled her into falling down, still holding onto Alec's hand. She landed on her bottom with a thud.

"AH!" But recovered quickly, using Alec's arm to hoist herself back up just in time to ask Alec where they were. "Mister Alec where are we? Is this your place?" She asked pointing to the crest above the doorway, recognizing it from the pin he wore.

"Sort of, young miss. This is where I lived when I was your age." He surveyed the wooden door, frowning at its craftsmanship. There were thirteen ways to open the door and eleven of them led to certain death; of the two that were safe, one led to the reception counter where his sister or mother usually took orders from customers and the like, while the other led to the family quarters. He thought about taking the easy way--simply knocking on the door and stepping into the reception area--but didn't like the thought of encountering his mother first. No doubt she'd taken the news of his departure hardest and he hadn't been back or had any contact at all with his family before his... death. Encountering any one of his sisters first would be a blessing; while they didn't support his leaving, they understood the reasons better than anyone ever could. There was no chance he'd see his father til nightfall--he'd either be in town buying stock or out somewhere delivering an order. Hopefully the old fool wasn't still doing the hunting...

"Ah, well, no use thinking about it til my ears fall off, I suppose. Miss Yan, press your hand on the door, please." When she'd done so, he followed suit and did the same before pressing his pinky into a tiny, almost invisible false knot set in the wood of the door itself. Nothing happened, at first. The knot clicked, stuck, then reset. A full second passed. Then another. Alec set his free hand on Yan's shoulder and pulled her a little closer to him. Another second passed, and they were gone. It looked as though they were there and then simply not, but in truth the entire front of the small structure lept back into itself, swallowing the pair and replacing where they'd been with a duplicate facade. They plummeted through the labyrinth of pipes, carried on their door-and-single-step-elevator dashing down, back, forward, and sideways. As they dropped, the air would cool off to a very pleasant, constant temperature a little over 20 degrees centigrade, and the suffocating pollen in the air above would give way to clean, crisp air like in the morning dew. The doorway ceased falling, slowed, and drew forward slowly into its selected recess. Alec turned the doorknob, his breath catching as he heard the creek of the hinges. The door opened, and he stepped into a room he thought he'd never visit again; tapestries of triumph against dragons and swords and bows of every kind adorned the walls, welcoming home. A single bed against the wall with deep purple blankets and sheets, just the way he'd left it. He was back in his old room. Back home.

((Sorry, Ange.))
